Emilia-Romagna: Our favourite eateries

€ Bar Hemingway, Castenaso – the BEST ice cream ever. Try Cremino or Cremino di Pistachio. You won’t regret it. Amazing staff too.

€€ Ciccia e Tortellini, Castenaso – Typical meals from Emilia-Romagna. Comfort food, but fancy. Small & authentic, you can watch the chefs prepare the homemade pasta through the window from the street.

€€-€€€ Rabarbaro, Piacenza – Classic flavours, modern presentation. Old laundrette converted into an eatery. Relaxed, great hideout on a rainy day. A little pricey but worth it.

€€ Villa Ghigi, Bologna – an outdoor, pop-up restaurant on the grounds of Villa Ghigi. Traditional local foods. No fancy crockery or cutlery but the food won’t disappoint.

€€-€€€ Ristorante La Rocca, Verucchio – Pricey but incredible location and outstanding food.

€ Gelato d’Amare, Gradara – Lovely ice creams in the heart of one of the region’s most beautiful villages.

€€ Ristorante Del Conte, San Leo – Beautifully prepared traditional dishes in an incredible setting. Another of the regions most beautiful villages. You’ll need to refuel here after your walk up to the fortress!

€€€ Taverna Del Falconiere, Castell’Arquato – exquisite dining with breathtaking views. Refined, small portions and a little expensive, but worth it for the experience.

€-€€ Ca’Pelletti, Bologna Centro – cheap, classic local dishes in the heart of Bologna. Faster dining in comparison to more traditional restaurants so good if you’re on the go.

€€- €€€ Vito San Luca, Bologna – Take a walk up to San Luca from Bologna city centre and refuel at the top with a lovely meal here.

€€ Pizzeria 39, Castenaso – Wood fired pizza Napolitana, amazing desserts, great beers.

€-€€ Grand Tour Italia, San Donato, Bologna – a tour of Italy, region by region. Lots of choice, makes for a fun date day or family day out. Also has a great book store, food store and children’s play areas, amongst other activities.
